Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream Launches This Week For Nintendo Switch
On a small island floating in the sea, Mii characters live their own carefree lives. In Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, players become the caretaker of this island. They can create all sorts of Mii characters based on family and friends, or even someone completely original.
From their appearance to their traits, there are countless ways to customise island residents in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. Mii characters can be created by answering questions about their facial features, or by selecting from various face types, hairstyles, eyes and more. There are many parts to choose from, some of which are new to this game, and ways to create even more imaginative looking Mii characters with robust face paint options, too. Customisation options include Mii characters’ name, height, body type, gender, and voice, as well as aspects of their personality, including their quirkiness, energy levels and more.
As island caretakers, players can help their Mii characters explore their likes and dislikes, form relationships with one another, and get up to all sorts of wacky fun. At first, Mii characters will be strangers to one another, so players can place them next to each other to get them talking. With time, the Mii characters take on a life of their own. Caretakers can watch as their Mii characters forge unlikely friendships, get into fights, fall in (and out of) love unexpectedly, and so much more.
Caretakers can expand and design their island by placing homes, shops, restaurants, and more to give their island residents new hang out spots to visit. They can discover their Mii characters’ favourite eats and culinary curiosities at the Supermarket; pick up a range of everyday attire and out-there outfits at the Clothes Shop; revamp rooms and living spaces at the Renovation Centre (there are even rooms for Mii characters who dream of sleeping in a fairy forest or a library); shop for reasonably priced items that change depending on the time of day at the Market Stall; gather island decorations at the Island Design Centre; tune into the News Station to keep up with the Mii characters and everyday happenings on the island; stage a fun photo op for Mii characters at the Photo Studio and more.
Caretakers can make their island their own by changing up its aesthetic with landscape items, such as trees, plants, benches, vending machines, bouncy playground rides and more. Players can move shops and houses around, expand areas of land, and more based on suggestions from residents or personal preference.
At the Studio Workshop, caretakers can create all sorts of unique things to further enliven island life. They can design pets for Mii characters, draft up custom drinks, sketch a resident’s favourite TV show, decorate a special item of clothing, draw the exterior of a house and ground tiles, and go wild by creating original items for the island, too.
And there are more ways to customise island life in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. Mii characters can be gifted little quirks that can give them even more individuality, like poses they may strike, how they enjoy their food or having them toss and turn while they sleep, for example. Players can even teach their Mii characters different words and catchphrases which they’ll start using as they live their island lives.
For caretakers looking after their island on Nintendo Switch 2, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is designed to take advantage of the console’s improved hardware performance, offering a more comfortable gaming experience. Nintendo Switch 2 also includes support for GameChat, available with any Nintendo Switch Online membership.
Mii characters living on this island will do whatever they like, whenever they like. As caretakers, it’s up to players to nurture them and give them the occasional nudge in the right direction.
Players can also experience a slice of island life with the free demo Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream – Welcome Version, available now on Nintendo eShop. Progress can be transferred over from the demo to the full game, and a hamster costume in a randomised colour for your Mii characters can be obtained after finishing the demo content.
